Guest Post: Limina Volunteers

Limina Volunteer Day, June 25

Tough Work for a Worthy Purpose

Choosing Anchor House

We (Limina, additional company details are below) were looking for meaningful volunteering opportunities to give back to nearby communities. While a number of options were suggested by various team members, Anchor House was a clear winner. On its surface, The Anchor House project is a Habitat for Humanity project, but with it’s clear and concise mission “HOPE”, the Anchor House is an apartment building that will be a retreat, a safe place for young people transitioning out of foster care to call a temporary home. Its important purpose resonated with everyone on the team. We were thrilled to find an open day, get scheduled, and get started!

A Full Day

We started with a quick orientation with Tucker from Flatirons Habitat for Humanity, but then immediately got to work. First, we cleared bales of hay, fences, and other random materials, making way for the leveling of the Anchor House’s future parking lot. We then cleared out dozens of buckets worth of dirt from the crawl space and cleaned up the basement. As we were finishing, flooring (planks, tiles of carpet) arrived. We helped move that flooring into the Anchor House for future installation.

Next, we moved dozens of baseboards and trim to the parking lot, which we then painted and moved back to Anchor House. We finished by moving all the interior doors to their future install locations throughout Anchor House.

After all of those tasks, we were running out of steam (keep in mind - we do ~100% of our work behind our desks!). Unfortunately (luckily?), it was at this time that a torrential storm started to roll in, so Tucker dismissed us for the day.

Worth It

Soreness, minor scrapes and bruises lasted for days. However, while we’ve participated in a variety of volunteering events, we can say, hands down, that our day at Anchor House was the most fulfilling. We all are excited to see it in its final form and hear about all of the positive impact it’ll have in the years to come. We recommend you grab a volunteering position while you can! Look for volunteer opportunities before the project ends.
